ARTIST STATEMENT
“My artist practice primarily involves mediums such as paint, printmaking, collage or digital collage. In my work I explore identity, queerness, and what it means to defy expectations surrounding the body. I often use an animalistic but human figure to represent anonymity and to retaliate against the ideal body.
This piece Dress Up is an interactive collage, allowing viewers to change the clothes of the figure. The action of dressing the body is a part of our everyday lives, what we put on our own body signals who we are to the greater public. Its placement under the women’s restroom sign is a direct comparison of how society defines gender. By creating a figure without a human head, the body is left anonymous and subverses the ideal human form.”
